Black and decker disk cutter?
Got an old peace of hardware here. The label on the side says disc cutter type b and no serial no. The writing above it says the van dorn electric tool co. div of black and decker mfg co. Its pretty old not electric powered. It has a saw type disk and a handle that makes it turn space under the saw type disk with a ring little space to the blade can fit and a what looks like an end of a bolt but its round. On the one side you can take a yankee screw driver to release this whole thing. then a long space with a metal bar going straight to this next thing that can come out of the post the long metal thing ends. This peace is like a metal steak u would put into the ground but smaller with a thing you can spin with a screw driver it seems. There are lines on it and the thing u can move has a big top head. There's also an indent on the inside of this that runs all the way down, When swung in this peace hits the metal ring peace u can take out with the yankee screw driver. Also looks like it was able to be screwed to a work bench table. Can't find anything on the internet about it. All I got to go on is this little plate that says disc cutter type B. Please help me out.

Can a human-powered airplane be powered by pedals connected to an electrical generator?
I'm a little interested in human-powered airplanes. I found that most human powered airplanes generate very little horsepower from the pedals powered by a human and can't climb very high (although I know some human-powered airplanes to fly far). Would it be possible design one in which to connect the pedals to an electrical generator in the plane with would then turn the propeller by electric power? Would it produce more horsepower with less muscle power required for the human and hypothetically no other people would need to assist the pilot in takeoff (like holding the wings and pushing the tail)?

Problem with my VAUX Astra 2001, Is it my alternator or my electric power steering pump?
When i first start my car the power steering is very tight and then goes ok after a couple of seconds. After driving for a couple of miles the steering then goes tight again and i start to loose the battery power and the car comes to a halt. I have read that my power steering is elecronic so im not sure if its the power steering pump thats draining the battery or if its the alternator not charging the battery... Can anyone help?????

Estimate price of battery bank that supplies energy to your home for a couple of days w/o recharging batteries?
This is a homework assignment I have in my Powering the Future class:
The objective is to estimate the price of a battery bank that can supply electrical
energy to your home for a couple of days, without re-charging the batteries.
First, estimate the electrical energy usage per month (use the data from
your electricity bill or ask your parents, the value is probably in the range
200 : : : 800 kWh per month). Then nd the energy used per day. Select the
autonomy - the number of days the batteries must supply power without re-
charging, to be in the range of 3 : : : 5 days. To supply energy to the household
appliances, the battery bank must be connected to an inverter which takes DC
voltage as an input and converts it to the standard AC voltage (110=120 V
at frequency 60 Hz). Inverters usually use input DC voltages of 12, 24, 48,
64 V or higher. Search online and nd some examples of DC-to-AC inverters.
Make sure that the power for which the inverter is rated is not too low. The
maximum electric power demanded by a typical home is likely to be in the
range of 5kW : : : 10kW. Once you select an inverter, you need to nd the total
capacity of the battery bank that can supply electricity for the selected number
of autonomy days. Search online and nd batteries (acid-lead type, suitable for
deep discharge) and check their parameters - voltage, total charge (also known
as capacity given in ampere-hours A:h) and price. You need to gure out how
many batteries you need to buy and how to connect them (in series, in parallel
or mixed) in order to satisfy the required energy demand. When you connect
two batteries in series their terminal voltage doubles, but the total capacity is
the same. When you connect them in parallel, the capacity doubles but the
voltage remains the same (see the examples in class). Mixed combinations can
increase both the capacity and the voltage. Provide an estimate of how much it
will all cost - batteries plus inverter. This will give you a lower estimate of how
much it will cost to move completely o the power grid and rely on alternative
