What Is Wikipedia? A Guide To The Most Unique Encyclopedia On The Net
Wikipedia is an open source encyclopedia, a website where anyone can write and post an article on any topic of their choice. The site has been a remarkable success, with thousands of amateur authorities weighing in on an infinite variety of topics. As of the summer of 2005, Wikipedia was home to nearly 850, 000 articles in English alone, with many other entries in dozens of additional languages. They currently have over 1.3 million articles in English, 445, 000 in German, 342, 000 in French and lesser totals in many other languages, such as Dutch, Spanish, and Japanese. Wikipedia has become an international phenomenon.
For pedestrian research Wikipedia can be a remarkable resource. Search on wheat production in Kansas, and you'll get seventeen articles that refer you to a commodities trading organization, a couple of agriculture publications, the Kansas Board of Trade and links to other sites that may or may not be related. If you don't find what you want, chances are that a search on Kansas will get you their annual wheat production in a review of the state and its resources. For general information, Wikipedia has become a repository for an unmatched collection of resources. From quantum physics to cartoons, you'll find something on virtually any topic.
The information provided there seems factual, precise and for the most part professionally presented. Wikipedia does employ a staff of article checkers, in order to eliminate the most egregious examples of self aggrandizing nonsense. Most articles are posted by registered users, which cuts down on the traffic from flamers. Contributors are also able to edit posted articles and contribute further knowledge they may have.
Wikipedia has suffered some growing pains recently in situations where it has become a resource for current events. For example, the entry on Enron's Kenneth Lay had several erroneous entries about the circumstances of his death, as well as a few soapbox entries about the death of the Houston rip-off artist, etc. There have been other instances where edits have been made regarding breaking news that have been incorrect. Because Wikipedia has become such a widespread resource, the managers of the site and its founder, Jimmy Wales, have been criticized.
It is a legitimate question as to whether Wikipedia has a role in the business of newsgathering with its open source format. Management's response has been that henceforth, there will be no more anonymous entries but that only registered users will be allowed to post on the site. But while the operators of Wikipedia wrestle with success, it is nevertheless a unique information resource – an encyclopedia drawn from the population at large.
The front page has featured articles and links to a number of sections. One provides tips to using the site, while another is a reference section designed to function as a library resource. There are a couple of community forums and news about new features on the site.
Sister projects include a Wiktionary – their dictionary and thesaurus service. Wikispecies is a biological database about the species found among flora and fauna. Wikisource is a free content library – a source of links to online content that has been made available at no cost. The family of Wiki services (Wikiwiki means "in a hurry" in Hawaiian) is a unique online service that owes its origin to the open-source, anarchic origins of the World Wide Web. Some intelligent fellow came along and found a way to present information in an organized fashion, provided by participants and at no cost – and to make a personal commercial success of it. That is the internet at its best.

still think Obama is legit? want $100,000.00?
$100,000 Reward for Proof of Obama's "natural born citizen" status.
(Born in USA still might not qualify)
Silver Stock Report
by Jason Hommel, July 28th, 2009
Copies or links to the previously released, Hawaiian "Certification of Live Birth", which is NOT a valid Birth Certificate, does not constitute valid proof to claim the reward.
I, Jason Hommel, promise that I will give $100,000 to the first person who can prove to my satisfaction that Barack Obama, acting as president of the United States, is a "natural born" citizen of the USA, which is a qualification to hold the office as indicated in the U.S. Constitution.
Please prove that Obama is a "natural born" US citizen, and put to rest the claims in lawsuits, as wnd.com reports, "that include contentions Obama was born in Kenya, wasn't a "natural born" citizen because of his father's Kenyan citizenship, was a dual citizen and that his mother wasn't old enough to transmit citizenship at birth. In addition, his citizenship is clouded by his move as a child to Indonesia and apparent adoption by an Indonesian citizen who married his mother."
"California attorney Orly Taitz says that according to Obama's own words, his father was a British subject at Obama's birth and later a citizen of Kenya. Taitz has argued that the admission that Obama's father was Kenyan disqualifies him automatically, since a "natural born" citizen must be, under one definition, born to two parents who are citizens."
This is not a partisan offer. If Obama is impeached, it will not put any Republican into the office of the presidency. Democrats have no valid nor logical reason to be upset over this. Joe Biden, Vice President, would be next in line to hold the office, and after him, it would be Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the house, both of whom I find to be highly objectionable to my own political preferences.
Please note, I oppose Joe Biden on every political position he is professed to have in the current wikipedia article . I'm opposed to teacher's unions and government monopoly on education, I support drilling for oil in ANWR, I believe global warming is a fraud, I believe restricting so-called "global warming" pollutants will greatly harm the economy, I generally oppose unions who have helped to bankrupt America's auto industry, and I favor the privatization of Social Security. Biden has the opposite view on all points. While my offer might be construed to be a support for Joe Biden who would be next in line to be the president, I wanted to be clear that it is not.
The reason I feel this issue is important to all Americans, and is a requirement of the Constitution, is that quite simply, a foreigner is not as likely to hold U.S. interests as important as foreign interests .
Given that I feel that Barack Obama's only "change" is acting like George Bush on steroids with even bigger bank bail outs for the rich, and rushing headlong to steal many important God-given rights from Americans, I feel, as an "ambassador of Christ" (2 Cor 5:20), an obligation to encourage the American people, the media, and Congress to investigate this issue, and impeach Obama as quickly as possible, if he is not a "natural born citizen" of the USA.
In case some people wish to start reading some of the excellent reporting on this issue:
WND's complete archive of news reports on the issue

or
wnd.com
I'm terribly frightened that our current Federal government under Obama will pass legislation that will restrict the God-given right to bear arms, remove the right to medical care, remove the right to grow our own food, remove the right to preach from the Bible against sexual perversions as per the new Hate crimes bill, etc.
While Congress is investigating Obama's birth, they might also want to investigate the Federal Reserve, which might be a foreign owned corporation, one such foreign interest, that is taking away the rights and property of Americans through usury (interest) on fraudulently issued paper money.
Obama might argue, privately, that since the U.S. Constitution was suspended in a time of Emergency during the Civil War, at which time, the President began ruling by issuing executive orders, that the Constitution is no longer applicable. However, how can "the President" issue executive orders, if he is not qualified to be the president?
I really am not a negative person. I'm optimistic that this might be the most important use of $100,000 that I've ever offered. And I would like to end on a positive note.
The good things I can say about Mr. Obama is that he is clearly the "gun salesman of the decade" as well as the "gold and silver bullion salesman of the decade", and that I believe more Americans ought to own more of both.
And if it turns out that Obama was born in the USA, and my reward helps to keep Joe Biden out of office, and end the controversy, or even highlight the issues of freedom

What happens to the titles won by the former Winnipeg Jets team?
The Phoenix Coyotes do not own the former titles ('73, '76, '78 Division Champs + AVCO Titles) and the current wikipedia page for the "New" Winnipeg Jets (former Atlanta Thrashers) does not show these titles either...
Have these titles just vanished from any NHL team?

Possibly can anyone tell me of a good XML reader to use on MAC OS X 10.5 to view and search the wikipedia XML?
I downloaded and have expanded the current wikipedia file dump that is roughly 30gb. I tried installing MYSQL and Media Wiki but the MYSQL version for OSX10.5 seems to not start even after altering some files via terminal(exactly as instructions stated). I'd like to have this Wikipedia to view offline as I do on my iphone using " tiniwiki". Are there any firefox or safari plugins to use or any stand alone apps for OSX 10.5 that will be as good as "tiniwiki" has served me?

My nails have started growing EXTREMELY and noticeably fast?
I have had some relatively major diet changes in the past few months, but I have noticed that my nails are growing very, VERY fast to the point where it's noticeable even over the course of several days. I haven't measured anything in detail yet, but it's been going on for over a month, and I've had to cut them more than 3 times in the past two weeks or less. (with the "more than 3 times" and "two weeks or less" being entirely literal, as in I believe it's been 4 times in the past 12-ish days but I just can't say for sure) They seem to be growing at a -much- higher rate than average, something like two to three millimeters per WEEK! It's not like they grow out more than an inch in a few days, but this is certainly quite ludicrous--a current Wikipedia gives an average of 3 mm/0.12 in per month, and although it may not be a scientific fact of a source, I can certainly say that most average people around me have their nails growing multiple times slower.
How abormal is growth that's actually three to four times faster than average, and what exactly could be causing it? Answerers may be unsure of how clear I am on amounts and how much I exaggerate, but this is literally at least right around 2 milimeters per week of growth for most fingers. Right now, my thumb, which is the longest right now (that just makes it a bit easier to measure; some of the length is from previous cuts etc) seems to have grown about 1.5mm or a bit more. It's been less than a week since I cut it, and taking into account all the possible nuances of inaccurate measurement and uncertainty, it still appears to have definitely grown MORE than one millimeter in the past -six days-!
I apologize for the wall of text, inconsistent and strange punctuation, and generally hard to understand word/phrase choices. Hopefully someone can still read it enough to form a reply.
